Located just a short distance from central Kochi City, Yōhōji Temple is the family temple trusted by Yamauchi Kazutoyo, the feudal lord who built Kochi Castle. The spring water that once welled up within the temple grounds is also counted among Japan’s three most famous waters in the world of tea ceremony.
This special experience takes place at Yōhōji, a temple rarely visited by tourists. Guests can hear stories directly from a temple priest and enjoy a matcha tea experience and meditation session while overlooking the garden, whose scenery changes beautifully with the seasons.

Details of Tour / Activity
First, you will receive an introduction to Yōhōji Temple from a member of the temple staff inside the main hall. As an English-speaking guide accompanies you, you are welcome to ask questions and converse directly with the temple representative.
Next is the matcha experience. Following the temple staff’s guidance, you will prepare your own bowl of matcha tea.
The experience concludes with a 10-minute meditation session while gazing out over the garden. If weather permits, you may also step down into the garden afterward to take photographs.

-There are irregular dates when the temple cannot accept bookings due to its schedule. Once we receive your reservation inquiry, we will confirm availability with the temple and inform you whether your booking can be accepted.
-Sweets are served during the matcha experience. If you have any dietary restrictions, please inform us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
-Payment may be made in advance through online payment or bank transfer.
