Details of Tour / Activity

Travel into the mountains of Kochi and meet your haiku masters. While well-known in the West for its 5-7-5 structure, you will discover that authentic haiku is more than just 17 syllables. Surrounded by water, mountains, and birdsong, you are sure to find your muse.

The Haiku poet draws inspiration from nature. We will start our workshop in the elegant facilities of the Auberge Tosayama hotel. Inspired by and built to match with the surroundings, the falling water of the valley runs through this stunning structure. After a lesson on the basics we will step out into the valley for a nature walk. Birds sing, water burbles and you are inspired to compose haiku. Gently guided by the experts you will find your own words and create your own haiku.

Japanese culture finds poetry in all aspects of living. Now it is time to appreciate the poetry of the Auberge chef. Enjoy a multi-course meal with the seasonal specialties of the local cuisine. Even travelers experienced with Japan will appreciate this unique and delicious meal.

Satisfied in both mind and body we reconvene for our final reading and good-bye. Be bold and share your poetry with the group!
