Ashizuri Coast Discovery Walk
and Boat Cruise

We gathered at the statue of the first Japanese man to visit the United States, John Manjiro. At 14 years old, his small fishing boat wrecked off the Ashizuri Coast and he was picked up by an American ship captain. But Japan’s most famous “accidental tourist” actually ended up changing Japan!

Starting the tour at the mountaintop look out, you can see exactly how the big waves and ragged coast could easily prove too much for a small boat,  and also how the busy shipping lane further out would have brought help to the flailing fisherman. Your guide will then take you through a camellia tunnel, show you the lighthouse, teach you about the 7 mysteries of the area and then continue with a beautiful walk along the coast.
